I am Chevel. I am known as Velly Vel on the stage and pen name, NuPink The Writer. I was born in London, England, on November 17, 1991, to a Jamaican mother and an English father. I moved to Trenton, NJ, with my mother and older brother when I was 2. Despite facing challenges in school due to my lazy eye and speech, I embarked on my poetic journey at a young age.

My creative pursuits began at age 5, with a fascination for drawing, capturing the essence of family dynamics and the world around me. At age 8, I ventured into crafting songs, an endeavor curtailed by the absence of recording equipment.

 

At 12, I encountered undiagnosed depression, which led me to channel my emotions into the world of poetry. This creative outlet became a lifeline, aiding me in navigating the complexities of adolescence.

With newfound resilience and determination, I returned to songwriting at 13. Over the years, my creative expression has flourished, resulting in a collection of over 300 songs and an archive of 1000 poems. Each piece is a testament to my journey, demonstrating the remarkable power of self-expression in facing life's challenges.

Today, I am excited to share my life and art. Through my words and melodies, I aspire to connect with those who have encountered their struggles, offering inspiration and empathy.
